Musician, actress and composer Kirsten Paludan is a Lawrence, KS native and a graduate of
KU (1996). The singer/songwriter has two full length solo albums and one EP to her credit, is
featured on numerous local and national releases as a guest artist, and is a member of four
aPaludan has made a name for herself in both Lawrence and Kansas City as a diverse and
magnetic performer. “With a well-established and acclaimed musical career, [she] has proven to
be an invaluable asset across various facets of the local music community. From the haunting,
celestial sounds of Olympic Size to the country charm of Starhaven Rounders to her catalog of
solo work, Paludan possesses a versatility unlike other vocalists and songwriters.” Deli

Since returning home from 10 years in Kansas City in 2010, she has had a strong creative
relationship with Lawrence Arts Center; composing, devising and performing in shows such as
Vagina Monologues: Liberated Sisters (composer, performer, 2020) and Rethink: I am a Veteran
(composer, performer, 2019), a documentary ethno theater piece. She also had featured roles in
Midnight Visit to the Grave of Poe (Morella, 2016) an original rock opera by Ric Averill, and The
Nervous Set (Sari, 2015), a jazz/beat generation musical. In Spring 2020, she contributed to
The Silent One, writing, performing and recording several original pieces for the climate change
folk opera conceived by Averill, which had its virtual debut in May of that year.
Paludan began her career as an actress, appearing in the films Ride with the Devil (1999/Ang
Lee, dir.) and CSA:The Confederate States of America (2004/Kevin Wilmott, dir). A producer/
director, herself, Paludan developed Cabaret du Monde (2017) and Cowboy Cabaret I & II
(2015/2016) for Lawrence Arts Center; a series of themed cabaret performances showcasing
her different musical projects and diverse performers from the region.
Paludan has toured nationally with her opera singing sister and their ever evolving sister act; in
January 2017, their show Music of the Mind premiered at the Lied Center of Kansas in
Lawrence.
Outreach driven, Paludan has been a vocal coach and private music teacher for 7 years, and a
mentor/coach for River City Rock Camp (youth and adult) for the past five. She is also the
Executive Director of the Lawrence Music Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to supporting the
health and growth of the educational music community in the Lawrence area and beyond.
